Fulmer Research Institute had 2 firing ranges, one beneath the workshop and one attached to the Met Lab.  The above picture was taken in 1983 in the Met Lab firing range for publicity reasons to show the ballistic photography capabilities available at FRI.

The main purpose of the testing carried out in the Met Lab firing range was to develop and optimise hard and soft body armour. Projectile velocity could be measured and multiple image photographs taken of the ballistic impact to provide data for mathematical modelling of the armour performance.
